Rankings

How 426 teams were placed into the first 30-league structure.

What the Rankings Are For

Before the first season, every program needed a reasonable starting position. Final 2025 rankings for FBS, FCS, and Division II provide the starting order within each source group. The three groups are then combined to create the proposal’s initial 30-league structure.  These rankings establish only the starting point. Once games begin, league results—not reputation, conference affiliation, or past status—determine whether a team rises, remains in place, or moves down.

Three Ranking Groups

FBS

FCS

The rankings determine where teams begin—not where they remain.

The initial rankings provide an organized starting position for the first season. After that, every team’s place must be earned through wins and losses. Strong results create opportunities for promotion, while poor results can lead to relegation.
